Iscariot is an atmospheric black death metal band from Nijmegen Holland and was formed back in 1995 when two members of Obductio Deum decided to leave. In 1998 Iscariot recorded their self-produced debut “Horror Vacui” at the Excess studio’s in Rotterdam. After this release Iscariot did a lot of gigs on native ground with prominent Dutch and foreign acts like Naglfar, My Dying Bride, Houwitser and Liar of Golgotha. When Skull Crusher Records signed the band they decided to release the new MCD “Feasting Supremacy” back in 1999. And I personally don’t have a clew why this release never got a review. Perhaps the mailman likes Iscariot very much or the dog of the neighbors went of running with it. I don’t know. Fact is that Iscariot produced a nice and varied sounding MCD full of atmospheric black death metal with the accent lying more at the black side.

Keyboards producing fantasy like sounds. A rasping death grunt, with my compliments for the lyrics on “Verboden Vrucht” which are totally written in Dutch, and you don’t hear that so often (except for Sammath, TJ) and of course the flaming drums and Norwegian sounding guitar riffs. But I have to admit that the total doesn`t really sound that innovative and spectacular. One can clearly hear that Iscariot has listened too much to Liar of Golgotha and Dimmu Borgir nowadays. All in all this certainly has become a nice release of a new and promising Dutch black metal band although I have to mention that I personally rather wait for some new work.
