The reputation of Katafalk preceded the arrival of the promo-CD by far. I heard from various friends as well as magazines that Katafalk is a live sensation to be reckoned with. I must admit that I’ve never seen them live (shame on me) but if their show is half as good as this CD, it’s more than worth checking out.
The title ‘Storm of the Horde” is remarkably well chosen because they storm into my living room like a bunch of barbarians eager to wreak havoc and mayhem. What Katafalk has to offer are 13 aggressive death/thrash metal tracks stuffed with blast beats, slayer riffs, guitar solos and grunt-a-long choruses. The CD has an atmosphere that makes me want to jump in my car and go see them perform on stage. An evening with friends, beer and Katafalk sounds like a promise which must be fulfilled in the near future. | |
All 13 tracks are equally strong but if I had to pick a favourite it would have to be “Redeemer”, but only because of the cool chorus. All other tracks are just as intense.
At times Katafalk reminds me a lot of God Dethroned. They have the same no nonsense attitude and a similar sound (and Slayer fetish), but they’re a lot more brutal. Maybe it’s no surprise that “Storm of the Horde is released by Cold Blood Industries, owned by God Dethroned front man Henri Sattler (who also makes a guest appearance).
In conclusion I would like to say: buy this album!!! Or better yet: go to a concert and buy ‘Storm Of The Horde’ afterwards to re-live the party at home.
