The Finnish Cadacross has gone through some radical line-up changes the past few years and apart from guitarist and vocalist Georg Laakso the whole band has been replaced. Fortunately, he is the mastermind behind Cadacross as well as the sole songwriter, so these changes haven’t really affected the songwriting process.

The music on Corona Borealis is very difficult to describe and spans many different styles of metal. Songs contain power, death, Viking, folk and battle metal parts, all blended together in a diverse mixture. Influences range from bands like Bal-Sagoth and Ensiferum to Covenant and Children Of Bodom. Surprisingly enough the music isn’t even chaotic and the songs are all pretty well done.

It is bombastic, melodic and yet aggressive with good keyboards and very aggressive vocals.

My only problem with this album is that even though it is very diverse, it is nevertheless very predictable. Many parts remind me of other bands and the songs sometimes actually sound like the result of mixing different bands together. Even if it all sounds very well, it lacks in the originality department. If you don’t care much about originality and like diverse bombastic metal then I can highly advise you to check this album out. It is certainly a pleasure to listen to.
