In these cold and dark days optimistic thoughts are not often found easily. But when listening to ‘Live Legacy’ these emerge from their fathomless depths. This release sends shivers down my spine once more when hearing these great songs.
Dissection has been one of my favourite bands from the day I heard ‘Storm Of The Light’s Bane’, one of the best and darkest albums I ever heard. This album, which is one of the best selling black/death metal albums of all time, has an occult ambience that is not often found. A song as ‘Where Dead Angels Lie’ touches me at the heart. Such great musicianship combined with the purest of darkness is just what I need in music.
The songs on ‘Live Legacy’ are played very precise and are exceptionally well recorded. Every nuance in the music can be heard, which is not always the case with live albums. | |
Especially the song ‘Retribution – Storm Of The Light’s Bane’ is so powerful I have no words for it. (I noticed that the bass drums do something slightly different compared with the studio version.)
This live album is recorded at the Wacken Festival, during their 1997 tour with Cradle Of Filth. Their set contains six tracks, under which ‘Unhallowed’, ‘Where Dead Angels Lie’, Frozen’ and ‘Thorns Of Crimson Death’, plus an intro. There is also another version of ‘Live Legacy’ available which contains a cover of Tormentor’s ‘Elisabeth Bathory’, which was recorded live in Cologne in March 1997, as well as an additional version of the classic ‘Night’s Blood’.
We should feel fortunate with this legacy we have inherited from one of the best death/ black bands.
