(Un)holy FUCK!!! Spawn Of Possession (S.O.P) is just what I needed after a shitty day at work. I had too much people irritating me with their stupid little problems. “NO, I don’t want to fix your computer! YOU messed up again, YOU fix it yourself you ignorant FUCK!!!” Sometimes being a computer systems administrator is enough to turn the nicest guy around (me) into a mass murderer. But listening to the debut of S.O.P. while travelling by train back home is enough to cleanse myself of the total hate towards my customers. It is so damn aggressive that I’m totally immersed in a boiling pot of unearthly growls, insane drumming and frantic fret bashing. The tracks are so full of twists and turns that I really had to concentrate on following the music and thus had to put aside my plans for customer genocide. Prior to this debut release on Unique Leader Records S.O.P released 2 demo recordings, of which all tracks but one are present on Cabinet.

Drummer Dennis Röndum also handles the vocals and does an amazing job. Right after the recordings the band recruited Kelly Izquierdo, former vocalist of Mortal Decay, to handle the vocal duties on a permanent basis. I can only hope he sounds as powerful as Dennis. S.O.P. is in roughly the same vein as for example Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus and the likes but with a lyrical content that deals mostly with possession and exorcism. Some Morbid Angel influences are easily recognizable as well and that’s never a bad thing. All tracks ooze aggression and brutality but at the same time this does not mean they lose virtuosity and technicality. Not too many bands are both brutal and technical but S.O.P. does the trick, in a most convincing way. All in all, Cabinet is a very impressive debut. My customers are spared, for now….
