Emo is a hot issue right now, and Dutch Rapid Notion perfectly fits this description. Although I’m not a big fan of putting labels on bands, this time I have to divert from that principle as I wouldn’t know how to describe this band in any other way. With influences ranging from Far, At The Drive-In and Incubus, Rapid Notion takes us on their ‘emo’tional trip through today’s life.
The band was formed a few years ago by guitarists Robert and Mark. After a lot of growing pains the band was completed when drummer Guus and vocalist Rai (Conqbine, Downforce) joined. Their music contains every element of today’s popular rock music. Like their colleagues Face Tomorrow they alternate fast and slow, heavy and melodic, and harmonic and (more) chaotic. | |
Although this has all been done before, that doesn’t mean Next 2 Nothing isn’t worth listening to. On the contrary, a song like “Circle” is truly beautiful and shows that this band has a lot of potential. If they can continue this level of songwriting in the future, then I think we’ll soon hear a lot more from this band. Although the production of this record is a bit lean, and not all songs reach the same height as “Circle” and “Tonight”, Next 2 Nothing is definitely worth listening to if you’re into the aforementioned bands.
