Ex- Atomic Bitchwax bassist Chris Kosnik has formed a new band: Black Nasa. Together with Corey Stubblefield (drums) and Duane Hutter (guitar) he is continuing where his former band left off. Or is he really? The great bass lines are still there, but the songs are more like shot versions of Atomic Bitchwax, more structured. Personally I was always quite impressed with the improvisation-like extended “songs”, with lots of different themes and rhythm switches.
After a while getting used to this new approach, this one can grow on you. | |
Also the multiple use of slide guitar is a bit strange at first. The songs are very well performed and contain enough power, variation and weirdness to still appeal to the die hard fans, and can also attract a new audience of people who are not so fond of Kosniks former work. One song must be mentioned separately: “Walking, Talking, Blackout Mode”. An instrumental track, and this is a real pearl, which brings back the best days of Pink Floyd. As for the rest: this CD rocks.
