If you are interested in an album full of great rock in the purest sense of the word, ‘Burning Organ’ is a CD you don’t want to miss. Guitarist Paul Gilbert (ex-Racer X and ex-Mr. Big) created a remarkably original sound with so much energy, its hard not to nod along, smiling from ear to ear. There are thirteen rather short tracks on this album, all well matched. Gilbert’s compositions are quite experimental, some of them quite crazy. Opener ‘I Like Rock’ is played on one hundred different guitars, using a lot of overdubs. This is a real killer and characterizes the songs to follow.

Gilbert isn’t shy on ironic considering songs like ‘I Am Satan’ and ‘Suicide Lover’. The title of the CD is a bit misleading. Although the organ plays a large role on the album, it’s mostly guitar orientated. The rhythm section forms a solid base for the battles between guitar and organ. Only point of criticism is the presence of two covers that do not reach the level of Gilberts own compositions. This melodic power-rock CD is a lot of fun and won’t bore for a minute. (Geert)
