After five years, Finnish metal band Silent Voices finally released their debut album Chapters of Tragedy. Their music can best be described as progressive rock in the vein of Symphony X and Dream Theater. There are seven tracks on Chapters of Tragedy, ranging from four to eleven minutes. Opening track "Beyond Shadows" has some great melody lines and shows the potential of Silent Voices. Although the drums sometimes sound a bit too hollow, the overall sound is very well balanced. "Humancradlygrave", one of the best tracks on the album, is a re-recording. Although I don’t know the original, I get the impression that this band is proving their ability to mature.

"Crossing My Path" is another highlight. There is a persuasion present that at times lacks in other tracks. A minor weakness of this CD becomes clear in the heavier pieces, where the mix sometimes seems just a little over the top. The parts where the musicians get enough room to play duets or solos sound great. The structure of the songs is very good, although some changes could have been arranged in a better way. All in all I must say I really enjoy listening to Chapters of Tragedy. This album is without a doubt one of the best releases by Low Frequency Records.
