Not afraid to experiment, Cult Of Luna explore the world beyond what men call metal. Influenced by (sometimes) underrated bands like Neurosis and Isis, Cult Of Luna unleashes a dark and anxious epos that grabs you from the very first second. Being confused after listening to this album for the first time, I played it over and over again to experience what this music was really about. The Beyond is an expansive form of music and sure it needs a lot of listening attempts, but in the end you’ll discover its true beauty.
Born from the political punk movement, Cult Of Luna hail from Sweden and hope to walk the same inspiring path like Refused once did. In fact they even hired Pelle Henricsson (Refused, Hell Is For Heroes) to mix their album. The Beyond is already their second full-length. | |
After releasing their self-titled debut on Rage Of Achilles and a 7” on Hydra Head they signed a deal with Earache (what a suitable name for a label releasing music like Cult Of Luna does).
Cult Of Luna are a sextet that consists of completely different individuals, all with different influences and impressions. The lyrics have a political background which is most put forward in the outro “Further”. This covers a fragment of a documentary focusing on an Indian professor discussing the downfall of modern civilization because of capitalism. Altogether The Beyond is an impressive artistic - with a capital A - record. Dark and apocalyptic music thriven with intense emotions, taking you on a 75 minute mind trip with highlights such as “Genesis” and “Deliverance”.
