Argh. Making a review of Still Loves You is a hell of a job, and I wasn`t really looking forward to it. Why not? Take a good listen to Drowningman`s last album Rock And Roll Killing Machine and you will realize that album is one of the most brilliant pieces of noisecore that have been released in the last couple of years. A follow up to something so brilliant, it can only disappoint. And in a way - yes, Still Loves You disappoints a bit. Drowningman has let go of their goal to put as many different riffs and breaks in their songs as humanly possible, and went for a more straightforward songbased method. Which delivers some excellent songs ("The Unbearable Burden Of Always Being Right"), ("Living With The Awful Truth That We`re Not As Cool As We`d Like Other People To Think We Are") but lacks just that bit of raw insanity that made their last album so damn good. | |
To keep peace with their old fans and not make the shock too great, they included a rerecording of one of their first songs, "Weighted And Weighed Down", which apart from being cool is a very good way of hearing the progress this band has made since their start. Granted, after hearing Still Loves You I realize that progression is a necessary thing and the way they have chosen now will definitely not be the worst they could have chosen. I am anticipating their next full-length; please don`t make us wait too long for it. (Xander) |
