The last two decades the Bay Area provided us with great bands like Machine Head and Testament and this still hasn’t ended yet, because 40Grit is one of the youngest offerings, ready to release their second opus called Nothing To Remember. After being promoted by numerous underground magazines they finally received label attention. Metal Blade signed the band, releasing their debut album Heads, in 2000.
Nothing To Remember shows 40Grit’s musical progression. The new album is a lot more melodic and polished than their debut. James’ (the band’s vocalist) voice has grown a lot over the past few years. He’s now capable to alternate his aggressive and melodic side much better than before. | |
40Grit’s music can be best described as Bay Area metal with a lot of refreshing hooks and great rhythms combined with melodic vocals. The overall sound of the album is very good thanks to the producers (the band itself assisted by Juan Urteaga). The only disadvantage is that there aren’t any real highlights besides “A Part Of Me”. From the intro to “Pull Out” this album features songs that all sound a bit alike. Despite this lack of variety Nothing To Remember is a real recommendation for people who are into Machine Head, Unjust and Skinlab. So if you belong to these people go check out this album. It hits your local record store in March.
