Kickhunter is a recently formed band around six rockers from Hamburg, with as best known member Markus Grosskopf from Helloween. Hearts & Bones is a step back in time to the good old hard rock days and Kickhunter reminds strongly of early Van Halen, Rose Tattoo and David Lee Roth. Be prepared for a musical attack of singing guitars, a heavy bass and a genuine Hammond organ.

Hearts & Bones is filled with straightforward rock tracks that are neither anything new nor really interesting. Sure, the album has the true hard rock feeling from the eighties but the songs are all too faceless and repetitive to really impress me.

You’ve heard it all before and most of the time the band seems to be borrowing ideas from bands of old. During the second song “Be My Lady”, Kickhunter even seem to borrow from a bit more modern band, namely the American Steel Heart. If you like to hear well played old hard rock and don’t really care about the fact that the band borrows ideas then this album might interest you.
