American underground cult heavy metal band The Lord Weird Slough Feg are back with a new album. Galloping rhythms and twin guitar work which the likes of Iron Maiden seem to be unable to produce these days. “Traveller” is a 45 minute onslaught of classic heavy metal at its best. Yeah, the metal scene in the USA might be as good as extinct but the underground struggles on without relent. Last year Zandelle surprised us with their excellent “Twilight On Humanity” album and now it’s The Lord Weird Slough Feg’s turn to show us that American power metal is far from dead.
“Traveller” is an album that cannot leave fans of old school heavy metal untouched; with its intricate guitar work, its passion and its rawness. Sure, the music is far from original, but the band have nevertheless managed to create their own refreshing sound without any compromises. | |
The music has been described as epic Celtic metal and that description certainly hits the mark.
The production of the album is old school too. Don’t get me wrong; though it might not have the powerful sound today`s productions have, its rawness makes up for that; and it sounds like a true heavy metal album nevertheless with the guitars pushed in the front. The songs are powerful, melodic, diverse and filled with lead breaks and catchy interludes that keep you hooked. The Lord Weird Slough Feg manages to walk the thin line between variation and repetition, making this album a wonderful listening experience. All I can say is that if you consider yourself to be a fan of true heavy metal (so not the polished stuff people nowadays call power metal), then get your ass to store immediately and purchase this album. It won’t let you down.
