These days everybody knows Sauron as the dark lord from the story written by J.R.R. Tolkien; The Lord Of The Rings. In this story Sauron represents all that is evil and powerful. SauroN from Tilburg, Holland will most likely not receive this kind of world fame, but they probably don’t long for it either. The sentence “Humanity is a disease, we are the cure” was once prominent on their former website. Now the inlay of their debut album tells us that “Every death is one step closer to perfection…” I don’t think that they will expose this kind of propaganda when they visit their grandparents…
Anyway, on this debut full-length they’ve produced some highly aggressive black metal. And not the synth-female-vocals-way, oh no. We’re talking some ultra-brutal hyper-raging high-speed black metal here! The elements from their music are not really original, but the way they blend it into good and recognizable songs shows absolute quality. One can hear influences from Marduk, Dark Funeral, Emperor and Darkthrone. Bands with their own style of black metal. SauroN takes these elements and mix them into good songs, without directly copying them. This results in an album filled with diverse and varying black metal. | |
Highly enjoyable, in which SauroN more or less find their own style. Especially the longer songs in which the band create more variation are absolutely nice pieces of extreme black metal. But actually all songs are. My favorite is probably “Vision Of Murder” because it has a nice Darkthrone-type atmosphere in the beginning. Unlike Darkthrone, SauroN make use of a good production, and still achieve that kind of atmosphere! (A big Fuck Off to all the bad-sound-fetishists in the underground!) Sound wise there is nothing to complain about, it all sounds very powerful and brutal. Artwork is really nice, and lyrically they are very misanthropic; every human-being on this planet must die. Oh well, at least they don’t discriminate…
Nice detail is that drummer Ludas (who’s responsible for the ‘Blastphemy’ by the way) only has one hand! His other drumstick is taped to his arm! Hands down for this guy! To put it very simple, this is one really nice piece of extreme black metal and my advise to everybody who is into this kind of metal is; buy the album and give it a try! ‘Cause remember, “You are the filth that breeds…”
