Right in your face metal, that’s how the guys from Coremass describe their music. This band is quite new to the scene and like many metal bands, they`re from the high north of Holland. With this demo they hope to get a bit of recognition from the metal scene and gather some fans in the process.
I realize that “in your face metal” isn’t exactly clear, so here’s a little something about Coremass’ music. When listening to this 3-song demo CD, you’ll immediately hear Machine Head and Biohazard influences. And with Machine Head, I mean the old Machine Head; a wall of noisy guitars. Combine those two bands and throw in a little bit of metal core and you have Coremass.
The production on the album is pretty good and sounds very thick, but when listening closer to the songs, you’ll notice that it all sounds pretty much the same. | |
Medium paced songs with a few nice breaks, but nothing more. Another thing that annoyed me a little, is vocalist/bassist Herman`s voice in the first two songs. His throaty grunts and screams very much sound the same throughout the whole demo. This effect changes somewhat in the band’s favor in the last song “Monobrow”, where Herman has a bit of a Biohazard thing going on.
Musically I’d say that Coremass is pretty good, but also pretty boring after a while. Repetitive riffs and breaks don’t do the band any good. Coremass definitely has some potential, but the band members need to grow a lot more before they can play with the big boys. (Robert) |
