When frustration needs an outlet you start a band. And not just a band. No, you start a hardcore band. And not just a hardcore band. No, a fucking angry hardcore band. In the vein of the finest destructive hardcore (Integrity, Ringworm) A.18 create dark, loud and furious music. But A.18 (Amendment 18) wouldn’t be A.18 if there wasn’t that touch of recognition in their sound. Could be the Californian sunshine, ‘cause A.18 is not from NY, Washington or Chicago. They’re from Orange County, California.
Don’t get me wrong. This is not a sing along album nor is it punk rock. It’s straight up hardcore with a few hooks, especially in the guitar parts. Singer Isaac Golub however, rants and shouts the album into a frenzy. Is this guy going for it all the way or what? This is smack in your face hardcore, short and raging. | |
Just the way I love it. Albums like this are never very long and on Foreverafternothing the variation is quite remarkable. Songs like “Dig” and “Bury Me Breathing” leave you with no questions.
Lyrically their views on personal struggle, facing problems and dealing with situations one can get caught up in add to the power of the message. It doesn’t make you feel comfortable, it only makes you feel stronger. It’s a positive outlet; let not a thing stand in your way. With A.18 raging like they do, standing in their way would not be the smartest thing to do anyway. Because they don’t need more than 35 minutes to create havoc and leave you bruised and battered.
