3 is the third record of GHS. The band name is an abbreviation of the
members last names. The music is characterized by a stewing rhythm
section with Stu Hamm on bass, Steve Smith (Journey) on drums and
alternating guitar play by Frank Gamble (Chick Corea`s Elektric Band).
Listening to their music one gets overwhelmed by the incredible skills of
these musicians. Whatever neat trick they perform during this 67-minute
jam session, it all sounds so natural. All tracks sound really compact,
although there is a lot of soloing, it always fits the music. | |
Highlights
are the bluesy "Confuse-A-Blues" and the last track called "The
Challenger", both composed by Gamble.
This is a very nice album if you’re interested in jams or jazz-fusion
music. Although GHS’ compositions clearly evolved on their third
record, I find it rather hard to maintain my attention. Therefore I
prefer to listen to this record on the background.
