Listening to Fight The Elements I discovered that this is a self-produced demo. Quite a shock if you notice that some of the famous albums I own are not as well produced as this one. But not only the production is good, the music also sounds fine. They should however skip the vague intro’s, especially in a song like “Burning Inside”. The strength of the song is really limited by this meaningless intro. Another point of criticism are the clean vocals. The annoying and wailing voice doesn’t do justice to the music. If you leave these two out and you focus only on the guitars and screams/grunts, it sounds really nice.
The fast and pounding parts of their music are completed with violins and synthesizers. They give the music an elegant and melodic layer. | |
Although I enjoy the raw parts being interrupted by calmer parts, I do think that the calmer parts are a bit too dominant in some of the songs. The songs would be more powerful if they had a few more up-tempo parts (the one blast-beat in “A Letter For The Lady Who Haunts My Night” for example sounds great).
The six songs impressed me. Nice double bass parts, good guitar solo’s, solid songs and a raspy throat; it all sounds nice.
This is a band that could really make it in the world of extreme metal. If you look at the professional appearance of the digipack CD and listen to the six well-played songs, one can only conclude that the outcome is very positive. I think we will definitely hear again from this Swiss band.
