CALGARY -- Mikael Backlund scored twice and added an assist Wednesday night as the Calgary Flames jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Up 2-0, Backlund set up Cammalleri in the slot for a power-play goal at 11:28. The quick shot past Jonas Hiller made it three goals on five shots and resulted in coach Bruce Boudreau pulling him from the game, replacing him with Frederik Andersen. The change did not change the games momentum, however. Two minutes later, Backlund scored his 15th goal of the season on a wrist shot that slipped past the rookie goaltender. Backlund added his second of the night 1:31 into the second period, this time shorthanded. Firing a wrist shot past Andersen as he broke in alone off the wing, it was the Flames second short-handed goal of the night and league-leading 11th of the season. Backlund has four of them, tying him for top spot with Bostons Brad Marchand and Tampa Bays Tyler Johnson. Mark Giordano, TJ Galiardi, Ladislav Smid and Corban Knight with his first NHL goal also scored for Calgary (26-33-7). The Flames scored more than five goals in a game for the first time this season. Andrew Cogliano with his 20th goal and Nick Bonino scored for Anaheim (43-16-7). Winless in their last four (0-2-2), the Ducks continue a three-game road trip Friday night in Colorado. Anaheim continues to lead the Pacific Division by two points over the San Jose Sharks but the Ducks squander the game in hand that they held. The Flames entered the night tied for the league-lead in one-goal games. The unusual blowout offensively for the home side was embraced by the crowd announced at 19,829, who gave the team a boisterous standing ovation after the first and second periods and once again when the game ended. Up 6-2, the crowd got one last treat when Knight, from nearby High River, scored his first NHL goal with 1:57 left in the game. There were signs early that it wasnt going to be Anaheims night. After peppering Flames rookie goalie Joni Ortio with a couple shots in the opening minute only to come away empty, Calgary made its first shot count when Giordanos slapshot hit the shaft of Kyle Palmieris stick and re-directed into the top corner on Hiller at 3:39. Bad luck for Anaheim was followed by some bad play. After Backlund was robbed on a two-on-one short-handed breakaway, the same penalty kill produced a three-on-one shortly after with Galiardi finishing off a neat set-up from Paul Byron at 7:10. Making his fifth start in a row, Ortio had 20 saves to improve to 3-3-0. In relief, Andersen finished with 16 saves. Hiller was tagged with the loss to fall to 26-10-6. Notes: Calgary LW Curtis Glencross (ankle) returned after missing 29 games. He played on a line with Galiardi and Brian McGrattan.. Anaheim D Ben Lovejoy (ill) did not play. Also scratched for the Ducks was LW Matt Beleskey.... It was only the third time this season the Flames have scored five goals in a game... The Ducks power play continues to slump. After going 0-for-2, Anaheim is 2-for-35 in its last 11 games... Calgary scored four goals in the first period for the first time since Feb. 13, 2013. Travis Frederick Jersey . The time off didnt slow them down. Tyler Zeller scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds, Kyrie Irving added 14 points and the Cavaliers pushed their winning streak to five games Tuesday night with a 114-85 victory over the skidding Philadelphia 76ers. Geoff Swaim Jersey . Tortorella told The Vancouver Province hell be cheering for Team Sweden to win gold when they take on the defending Olympic champions on Sunday morning. "I hope Sweden wins, cause I dont think Hammer (Dan Hamhuis) is going to play, judging by whats happened. http://www.shoptheofficialcowboys.com/Elite-Jonathan-Cooper-Cowboys-Jersey/ . THE THUNDER & PACERS BENCHES: In a nutshell, not impressive at all. Daryl Johnston Jersey . The mood in Seattle was electrified as the parade featuring the NFL champions began near the Space Needle and made its way to CenturyLink Field, the home of the team. At a ceremony inside the stadium, the team thanked its loyal followers -- the 12th Man -- capping a day of boisterous celebration that drew an estimated 700,000 revelers to Seattle. Alfred Morris Jersey . Cabrera-Bello shot a 1-over-par 73 and was caught by Webster, who carded 70 at Doha Golf Club for three-round totals of 12-under 204. They were only one stroke ahead of Adrien Saddier of France, the biggest mover with six birdies in his opening seven holes in a round of 64, South African Thomas Aiken (70) and Denmarks Thorbjorn Olesen (68) on a packed leaderboard. The Ottawa Senators are hoping for some deja-vu against the Arizona Coyotes after an emotional loss to former captain Jason Spezza and the Dallas Stars on Thursday. Viewers in the Senators region can watch the game on TSN5 at 3pm et/4pm at. Since a 5-1 win over the Coyotes on Jan. 10 the Senators fell to 2-3-1 with the loss to Dallas. Though they shut out Spezza in his return to Ottawa, the Senators allowed the Stars to score the first three and last three goals of the game. Theres no excuses, we shouldnt be that slow to start, coach Dave Cameron said. I thought our whole game was slow, sloppy. It was one of those games we got back into it, but we still didnt have the jump. With starter Craig Anderson bothered by a hand injury he suffered while making 37 saves during a 4-3 win over Toronto on Jan. 21, backup Robin Lehner could make a second straight start after stopping 35 shots Thursday. Lehner, who has never faced Arizona, is 0-4-1 with a 4.12 GAA over his last six games. The last few games Ive played, I work hard and Im trying to get better and I feel good, but bar in, post in, it hits someone, Lehner said. Its just not going my way. Obviously, Ive got to go back and try to get even better. Ive got to find a way. Teammate Bobby Ryan, meanwhile, has two goals with seven assists in eight games after recording one of each Thursday. He had an assist at Arizona three weeks ago, andd one during last seasons 4-3 overtime home loss to the Coyotes.dddddddddddd Tied for the Coyotes lead with 31 points, Antoine Vermette recorded a hat trick in last seasons road victory that helped Arizona snap a six-game losing streak at Ottawa. All-Star defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson recorded a short-handed goal off the opening faceoff of the third period and Arizona (17-25-6) scored twice more to snap an 0-5-2 skid with Thursdays 3-1 victory at Toronto. Martin Hanzal banked a puck in off the back of Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier and Sam Gagner added the Coyotes first power-play goal in three games on a deflection. Its about time we got a bounce, said Mike Smith, who made 24 saves to snap a six-game losing streak during which he posted a 3.57 goals-against average. I thought we did a lot of good things and got rewarded for it. Though the Coyotes 40 points are the second-fewest in the Western Conference, theyve worked hard while scoring three goals in three of their last four contests after being held to a combined five over the previous four. Gagner added an assist against Toronto to match his point total over the previous nine contests and will now try to help Arizona win two straight for the first time since a three-game run Dec. 23-29. Winning is fun, so we have to keep building on this win, said Ekman-Larsson, who leads all NHL defenseman with 13 goals.
